This study was designed to test cognitive processing, concentration, and error reduction on varying light color temperatures.
Study Methods: This study consisted of having students in two different schools exposed to “standard” and “blue-enriched” lighting. The standard lighting was set at 30 foot candles and 3000K while the blue-enriched lighting was set at 30 foot candles and 5500K.
The students were then exposed to 4 different scenarios:
- Standard lighting during learning and testing times
- Standard lighting during learning times and blue enriched light during test taking times
- Blue enriched light during learning times and standard lighting during tests
- Blue enriched light during learning and testing times
Results: The results showed cognitive processing, concentration, and error reduction all increased under scenario 4 as compared to scenario 1.
