Project Challenges
Independence School District aimed to update energy efficiency and overall performance with a large-scale facility construction project. The chosen partner for the overall project, Johnson Controls, brought EPL on board to handle lighting upgrades. Upgrades were installed during summer break to avoid impact on students and staff. Prior to upgrades, Independence had a mixture of 1- and 2-lamp fluorescent fixtures, CFL screw base lamps, and some metal halide fixtures.
Project Solutions
Using an occupant-centered approach, EPL designed Good-Better-Best options and educated school and community stakeholders on the pros and cons of each. We then replaced and retrofitted fluorescent lamps with LED tubes, upgraded screw base lamps to LED for improved performance and efficiency, and replaced metal halide fixtures with new LED fixtures.
